It is with a sad note that I assume the duties of the writing of the Clam Lake News. Andrea Krygoski, whom was our Clam Lake correspondent for many years, has left our fair village to begin her eternal voyage.Her family are in our thoughts and prayers. We will all miss her and are very grateful for all she did for our community over the years. Rest in peace, dear friend, and be kind.

As I look out the window, huge snowbanks meet my line of vision. Snow and cold seem to be the order of the day even though we are entering the month of March. The local businesses are grateful for this “white gold” which brings so many to our area to snowmobile and ski. Every weekend the parking lots are full to capacity with sleds. The motels and vacation rental homes are doing a brisk trade with the “weekend warriors” here in force. We are thankful to our groomers, Randy Sersch and Rich Reukema, whom man the Ashland County Snowmobile Alliance groomer. They groom 144 miles of forest trails making sure they are in tip-top condition. We appreciate all the hours they put in to keep our economy flowing.
Clam Lake’s civic organization, the Clam Lake Community Club, is entering it’s 82nd year. The second Thursday of every month we have a brief meeting at 5 pm, followed by a Pot Luck beginning around 5:30. “High Stakes Bingo” is played at the end of the evening. This is where the silly begins. Lots of fun! So, if you wish to mix and mingle with neighbors both new and old come and join us. The next Pot Luck will be held March 11th. We hope to see you there!
Clam Lake’s new defibrillator is now installed in the Post Office entryway for easy access in case of emergency. The Community Club wishes to thank all of those that contributed towards it’s purchase. Items, such as it, can mean the difference between life and death in emergencies in our rural areas.
Tom McDonnell, of Spider Lake, is the lucky winner of a $25 credit coupon from Bayfield Electric. These are randomly given out each month by Bayfield Electric Cooperative. Congrats to him!
