Hello Clam Lake!
Summer is in high gear in the village with everyone enjoying activities on the lakes and in the forest. Lots of vacationers in attendance. Thankfully, the weather has held so everyone is having a great time. Summer is at it’s peak and it shows!
REMINDERS: The Clam Lake Forest Riders will be holding a meat raffle at Ransom’s Place on Saturday, July 27th. Time to win some delicious meat and support this great club at the same time. All meats come from the Sixth Street Market in Ashland. Can’t beat that!
The Junction will be holding their Customer Appreciation Days during the last weekend in July and Ransom’s Place will be hosting their One Year Anniversary Party August 3rd. Lots of fun things to look forward to!
Everyone has been seeing a lot of fawns in their yards and on the roads. Time to keep an eye out as they learn the tricks of the trade as far as vehicles are concerned. I see a few have already fallen victim to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
NEW PARISHIONER: As I drove past St. George’s on Wednesday evening I noticed we have a new parishioner. Standing right off to the side of the door against the backdrop of the freshly mowed lawn was a young bear. We stared at one another for a few minutes, then he walked off into the woods.
Speaking of – Mass is said every Saturday at 4:00 pm at our historic “Chapel in the Woods”. Come pray with us! Our forest friends are welcome too. Seating for bears remains to the exterior right. Deer and elk claim the exterior left. Thank you!
I caught up with Tom (Diz) Dezotell after his return from a fishing trip to Lac LaBelle in Upper Michigan. Accompanying him on the trip were Rob Dezotell, Krista and Travis Wold amd friend Matt. They stayed four days doing some intense fishing on Lake Superior. For their efforts they were rewarded with a crop of 16 lake trout and cohos along with some northerns from Lac LaBelle. Everyone had a great time!
PICKLEBALL: Games are held most Tuesdays at ten. Come to play or to visit or just to cheer! Make sure to bring your sense of humor.
The Clam Lake Community Club held their monthly Meeting on Thursday. We stayed on the straight and narrow until the Spider Lake boys decided, during Bingo, that it was time to start firing tiddly winks at the Kubleys. Ahhh…yes….silly once again took over the evening. Good news! Kathy Erickson was the lucky winner of the door prize and the fill your card Bingo. Congrats to her! Of course, Ace is still trying to decide if the number he’s calling should be I-16 or I-19. We just mark them both to be on the safe side.
I had a chance to visit with Mary Lou Ehmann of Arizona whom is here visiting her family homestead on Spider Lake for a few weeks. Mary Lou is the daughter of Ed Ehmann Senior. Ed was the patriarch of Spider Lake from which the community of current landowners was formed. Mary spent many summers in Clam Lake as a girl along with her two brothers Chuck and Tim.Was wonderful to catch up with her again! Great memories of her and her family.
The village of Clam Lake extends a warm welcome to our newest residents – Brian, Joyce and Bethany Eder. Brian, a retired Air Force officer, is the son of the late Don Eder of Clam Lake. They hail from Centralia, Washington.. In the tradition of his grandfather Tom Eder and his father Don, he will be taking over the Camp Firewood business that the Eder family have maintained in Clam Lake for many years..We say, “Welcome! Welcome!”
Till next week……watch out for those fawns!
