Hello Clam Lake!
The weather this week has been a mixed bag. Some heat and humidity, some rain, some storms and some sunny mild days. The hummingbird fledglings are busy, which accounts for the sudden busrst in activity at everyone’s feeders. According to Jan Sharp, some migration has already begun. How fast summer goes!
RECAP: Zac and Nancy Ransom wish to thank everyone that turned out for their One Year Anniversary Party held on Saturday, August 3rd. Their beautiful backyard, bordering the river, made for a great setting for the three stations of bean bag competition. Winners in that event were: 1st place – Bucko and Tom ($200), 2nd place – Hoon and Toothie ($140), 3rd place – Quentin and Ivan ($60) and 4th place – Taylor and Tera ($20). Barb and Jack Cook were the big winners on the various raffles and door prizes. Congrats to them and all the other winners! Was a great time in the village!
PICKLEBALL: Tuesday’s games were again well attended. Here to join us from Jeffereson WI was 9 year old Cameron Filter, nephew of Kim Filter and grandson to Rick and Alice. He had never played before so had a great time learning the game. Also on hand to referee was Nina, Jan Sharp’s fur baby. When Nina was suddenly called away to return home to attend to her guarding duties (deer and squirrels), Bozo – Bob and Cindy Buryanek’s green parrot – once again agreed to step in. From all accounts, she did a fantastic job!
UPCOMING EVENTS: Saturday, August 17th will be a busy day in the village. Running from 10:00 to 5:00 will be the Elk Country ATV Club’s Brat Feed/Poker Card fundraiser. Along with a brat comes potato salad, beans and chips. All Poker cards need to be turned in by 3:00 pm – drawing will be at 4:00.This event will be held in the Clam Lake Junction’s parking lot.
Then starting at 3:00 will be the Forest Rider’s monthly Meat Raffle at Ransom’s Place. You can pick from a variety of meat boxes purchased at the Sixth Street Market in Ashland. Delicious!
So come to Clam Lake for the day and have a great time supporting these very worthwhile clubs.
Never a dull moment in Clam!
Thursday’s Community Club meeting/Pot Luck/Bingo had it’s usual assortment of tasty goodies on hand with the word of the night being – Brownies! Several different varieties were on hand to sample. Yum! As always, the silly made it’s appearance when the Bingo began. There were discussions on a wide range of topics including shape shifting Bingo, outdoor squats and even some singing in rounds. Due to this, a refrain of “what number did he just call?” became the order of the day. Always a surprise to learn that yes! I do have Bingo! Sweet! Of course, Diz remains the big winner on the fill your card. Lucky, lucky…..
CHURCH SERVICES: Mass is said every Saturday at 4:00 pm at our historic St. George’s Chapel during the summer. St. George’s will be closing it’s doors for the season after Labor Day, so come enjoy worship in our simple log cabin House of God while you can.
Speaking of…..Tom Dezotell asked me to mention that he has arranged for a Mass to be said for my predecessor, Andrea Krygoski, on Saturday, August 17th at St. George’s.
Until next week…..have fun in the woods and in memory of Andrea – Be Kind!
