“It Was 20 Years Ago Today!”
In the late 90’s a group of Clam Lakers decided to put together a twice yearly newsletter that they titled the “Clam Lake Clippings”. Much work went into this bi-annual letter. It contained information on the area, upcoming events and historical write -ups.
Looking back to January and June of 1996 this is what was going on in Clam Lake according to the Clippings.
The newly elected officers of the Community Club were:
President – Margo Gifford – “Clam Lake has been my home for six years now. Her special love is working with the youth of Clam Lake. ”
Vice President – Tish Holter – “She has lived in Clam Lake a long time and knows everyone and everything.”
Treasurer – Audrey Hakes – “ She has had experience in bookkeeping as she owns and rents out the Log Cabin during the year.”
Secretary – Karen Schmidt – “Karen is a new resident but long time visitor. She and Bob live on the south side of Upper Clam.”
Item on Community Club wish list: Replace kitchen stove (we have one small and one HUGE, would like one “just right” size).
Special Event: George “Pa” Reinders of Clam Lake turned 100 years old in December (of 95)!
The Local Businesses of 1996:
Chippewa Tavern – “Ralph and Cherie Cornell have operated The Chippewa for 15 years, rebuilding after the devastating fire of 1990.”
Deb’s Y-Go-By – “Deb Straetz and Roger Anderson annually host a customer appreciation party the last Saturday in July with free beer, food & music.”
Dick’s Auto Body – “Dick Reukema is the one to call for auto body repairs and minor mechanical work on your vehicle.”
Holter’s Woodcarvings – “Current projects include carved moose and elk and hand made fishing baits. Just call or ask around town, he will be glad to show you his work.”
Pinehurst Resort – “Kent and Lil Stuht invite you to stop by.”
Renzleman’s Mobil – “Jerry and Patti Renzleman have been serving Clam Lake for 30 years in this place.”
The Rummage Shop – “Fondly called “The Mall” by locals, the Shop offers a myriad of items. Stop and see Greg and Mary Schier and browse.”
Clam Lake Storage – “Jim Stevens of Sun Prairie operates this for all your storage needs.”
Coming Soon:
The Clam Lake Lodge – “Rich Curtis and Karen Nielsen have purchased the Irish Inn and, if rennovations are complete, hope to open on July 4th.”
The Elkhorn – “Opening Saturday, August 3rd, the former Rustic Stag will be owned by George Petry of Rice Lake, WI. Pat Paulson will manage the Elkhorn, with Pam Dudley as assistant. Many excellent local people have been hired.”
