Black Torch Vegetation & Transportation Project
The Forest Service is planning a vegetation and transportation project named Black Torch. It is located east and south of Clam Lake, WI in Ashland and Sawyer counties. The project is in a management area that focuses on early successional forests (primarily aspen). The goal is to maintain a shifting pattern of age classes across the landscape. Management activities such as clearcutting and shelterwood harvests maintain early successional ecosystems.
Additionally, the existing Forest Service transportation network in the project area will be reviewed. The roads in the area provide access for recreation, timber harvest, hunting, fishing, gathering, and private property access.
The Forest is looking for input from the public on the project. An Open House is planned for September 30th, 2015 at the Clam Lake Community Center, from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. The Community Center is on Clam Lake Street, about 1 mile SW of the Clam Lake Junction, in Clam Lake, WI. Forest Service staff will be there to share information about the project and visit with you about your ideas. If you are interested in getting involved with the planning of this project, please contact us and/or come to the Open House. While other opportunities for engagement will be available throughout the planning process over the coming year, you are encouraged to get involved during the early stages of project development.
